Reparations and truth commissions are considered key pillars of societies transitioning from conflict, authoritarianism and colonial pasts. In the past five decades over fifty countries have established truth commissions, many of which have also recommended reparations. This report by Luke Moffett and James Gallen analyses the mutual relationship between truth commissions and reparations, and to what extent they can complement and reinforce one another’s goals in acknowledging the atrocities of the past, building social inclusion and trying to vindicate victims’ suffering.

The report is available in English and Spanish.
